Eco-schools is an international initiative designed to encourage whole-school community action on Learning for Sustainability. It is a learning resource and a recognised award scheme which empowers children and young people to take action towards an economically, socially and environmentally just world.
It links sustainable development education, global citizenship and outdoor learning. Through work on Eco themed topics children will work on developing the four capacities of Curriculum for Excellence : becoming Successful Learners, Responsible Citzens, Effective Contributors and Confident Individuals.
We were awarded our first Green Flag in 2003 and have subsequently received six more flags. Our last flag was awarded in September 2015. In order to maintain our Eco Flag status we chose two areas from the Ten Eco Elements to focus on as well as the mandatory Litter topic. This year our other two areas are Water and Sustaining Our World.
